2019 National Treasures Stars & Stripes Rookie Patch Autograph #108 Zion Williamson /30 BGS Mint 9

Described by industry staple Beckett Media as “the biggest rookie basketball has seen since Lebron James”, Zion Williamson entered the NBA in 2019 with lofty expectations and in the hobby expectations often correlate to record prices with Zion proving to be no exception. This asset, a 2019 National Treasures Stars & Stripes Rookie Patch Autograph, is limited to 30 copies – making it 3x rarer than his bellwether rookie card.

Key Deal Points

Graded a Mint 9, on a scale of 1-10, by Beckett Grading Services (BGS) – one of the sports collectible’s leading grading companies.

14 of the 30 printed examples of the card have been graded by BGS, with 7 graded Mint 9, and four higher.

The record sale for a BGS Mint 9 is $124,200 in March of 2021, while the most recent sale is a September 2022 auction for $50,400.

A BGS Gem Mint 9.5 that sold in April of 2021 holds the record price for this card in any grade at $165,100.

Unlike the traditional National Treasures Rookie Patch Autograph (serial numbered to 99), the ‘First Off The Line Stars & Stripes’ parallel garners lots of investor interest due to its patriotic design and limited print run.

Collectable shareholders rejected a $75,000 buyout offer in June 2022 for this asset.

Valuation Analysis

“If you’re looking for the Cadillac of Zion Williamson Rookie Cards, this is it…2019-20 Panini National Treasures is a culmination of a hugely popular brand and Zion-mania…The value of this one limits its audience to a certain extent. But just like a nice car cruising down the highway or piece of artwork hanging in a gallery, it’s something that can be enjoyed even if the thought of owning one is a dream.”
